On January 24th Casa 4 went on a guided tour of the Loblaws Market in Mississauga. The children were introduced to the four food groups in an interesting manner. The dietitian started our tour in the Fruits and Vegetable section, while customers were actually grocery shopping. The children were taught nutritional facts about the colour choice (red, green, orange, yellow and purple or blue) of fruits and vegetables. Then we went onto the Meat and Meat Alternatives section to discover the importance of “protein” to develop muscles. Then we went past the fresh Fish section where the children interested in touching Larry the Lobster were welcomed to do so. Then it was onto the Grains section where the children held loaves of bread and saw the grains sprinkled on the top crust to demostrate the importance of eating whole grain bread. She then took us into the Cereal aisle where she informed the children that cereals marked with one, two or three stars beside the price indicates good nutritional value, three being the best choice.
