Reading can be one of the many fun activities that children fill their summer holidays with. Research has shown that it is also so much more! Children who read and participate in public library summer reading programs not only avoid the ‘summer slide” in learning, but also score higher on reading achievement tests than those who do not read.
Classroom teachers will be sending home “Summer Reading Lists” in the Thursday envelopes. The books on the lists come highly recommended by kid readers from all over the country and some may be available in eBook, audio book, and large print format. This summer, encourage your child or young adult to participate in the summer programs happening at your local library.
