Children are naturally curious about the world they live in. We need to build on that curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning.
This hands-on class project introduced the students to basics of electrical and mechanical engineering. Students also learned the importance of teamwork by working in groups. The students used the engineering design process to build an electric car using a power supply, switch, motor and gears. Students learned how to wire the power supply to the switch to rotate the motor. They also learned how to balance the car using the motor to rotate the two gears mounted on the rear wheels. Students improved their designs by troubleshooting the circuit to move the car forward and reverse. The student took great pride in presenting their work and completed projects to the class.
Grade One and Two would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Grewal (Sharan’s mom) for her generous time and expertise in giving us an insight to the basics of electrical and mechanical engineering.
