What an amazing Mini We Day at Tall Pines School!!! Mini We day was an incredible and inspiring day as 400 students and teachers gathered together in the TPS gymnasium to celebrate social change.
We kicked off the day with an inspiring welcome, from our two MC’s Julia and Harleen. Keeping the energy high, Dharma and Shyamika took the stage to speak about the success of our Terry Fox Run! Congratulations Tall Pines School, we raised a total of $5,157. As a result of collecting this much money, Mrs. Zee, Mr. Lynn, Ms. Hudani, and Mrs. Johnson all spray -painted their hair blue, pink, and purple!

Next, we had everyone on their feet ready to do the WE Day dance! The Kenyan Boys choir joined the Tall Pines School Student Leadership Team on stage to teach everyone the WE Day Dance.
Tall Pines School scared hunger! Ishiqa and Samantha took the stage to speak about why our students should get involved with the We Scare Hunger Food Drive. Mini We Day was the kick start to our food drive. All of the students brought in canned goods to earn their ticket to Mini We Day. Did you know 70 million people around the world go hungry every day. During March of 2012, approximately 900,000 Canadians received assistance from a food bank. One in five parents said they skipped meals to ensure there was enough for their children. Are you ready Tall Pines School? We can make a difference and dominate world hunger for children and adults all across the world. Together let’s set a goal of 1000 cans!
Next up, the Brampton Clean City program took the stage. Tall Pines School is proud to be participating in the Harvest Cleanup 2013. From October 1st to 31st, Brampton Clean City’s annual Harvest Cleanup Campaign will be encouraging all residents to do a cleanup in a green space of choice. Clean ups can be big or small – and can even include ravines, walkways, trails, boulevards, school yards, parking lots, sports fields, woodlots, urban forests and more!
This was followed by a speech from Mrs. Zee and Ms. Hudani. They were excited to announce this year’s Me to We trip to Ecuador. An information session will be held on October 22nd, 2013. This is the year of Education. Tall Pines School is proud to say that they are embracing this.
Our last speakers were Sukhman, Nicholas and Daniel. They spoke about the amazing opportunity they had to attend WE Day Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on September 20th, 2013. They spoke about Mrs. Flett’s vision for Tall Pines School and how lucky we are to have a school like this. “Many children around the world, are not lucky enough to go to school. Many don’t have clean water to drink or even a meal to eat. Boys and girls we have to be thankful for what we have. Do you know that our hair colours may be different, we may be big or little, but beneath all of our skin we all have the same heart. We need to be caring and compassionate human beings.” This year’s Student Leadership Team have planned special events and activities throughout the school year to help all of us to participate in becoming more globally aware.
Thank you Tall Pines School Student Leadership Team for planning such an amazing Mini We Day and inspiring all of students and staff at Tall Pines School!
