A vital component of the Montessori Junior High program is agricultural studies, and today the class is discovering and participating in some serious farm work!
After a brief tour of the Whole Village Farm, the students took part in various activities, including grinding feed for the chickens, laying mulch around saplings, and of course, grinding apples to make delicious apple cider!
“I learned how to pick up a duck,” said India, a level 8 student. “It was exciting, I’ve never done it before. I also learned it is fun to work together and get things done! It’s like a weight off your back when you know you’ve worked hard and got the task done.”
The class is scheduled for a number of additional visits to the farm in order to fully grasp how the tasks vary during the seasons and over the course of the year. We’ll see this place again in a couple weeks. Can’t wait!
