The Odyssey is truly an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. It really makes you sit back and realize how lucky you are and how much you actually have. When you get home, you truly appreciate running water, a toilet, your bed, plentiful amounts of food, clean clothes and privacy! However, I would never trade this experience in for anything. It is really worth being away from everything you know (other than your classmates), especially technology, because you get a chance to interact face-to-face with your classmates. Plus you really get an appreciation for some of Ontario’s natural beauty.
The Odyssey is all about challenging yourself, setting goals, reaching new limits, and learning more about yourself. It is also all about teamwork and leadership because without your team, you would die in the wilderness. No joke. We all go on this trip to bond with each other and create new and stronger friendships. And although at times you may feel like giving up, there is always someone there who will willingly lend a helping hand. When your journey on the Odyssey ends, you come out as a different person: socially, emotionally, and mentally. And even though our journey in Algonquin is over, we all know our journey in MJH had just begun.
