Good morning all…we happened to be walking around the base of Parliament Hill, and happened by a full military wreath laying ceremony in honour of some visiting dignitaries (the defense ministers of Lithuania, India, and New Zealand). So we watched the closing minutes, and chatted with the brave members of the Canadian forces, who are the friendliest people in town.
The ceremony took place at the War Memorial, an awe inspiring marvel of art and architecture…the faces of the statue soldiers marching home from war towards freedom are so detailed and intricate…it’s tragic to think of the sheer numbers that never returned.
Also at the memorial is the tomb of the unknown soldier, where the remains of a first world war soldier rests. The children were very respectful and solemn at the site, with some even taking notes (voluntarily!) on the dates of the major conflicts in our history.
